Hey everyone! I've been using Linux as my main OS since last October, and I came across some discussions about Pop!_OS having various issues. Can anyone share what specific problems people are experiencing? I've tried both the 22 and 24 versions and currently using 24 with the Cosmic desktop environment. The only problems I've noticed are that the software store is really laggy and sometimes freezes, which requires a restart. Also, the pop-out feature in Zen Browser worked without issues in version 22, but now in 24, I have to make it a sticky window with a shortcut to keep it open, which is a bit annoying but manageable.

I've been using Pop!_OS too, and honestly, it works just fine for me. Sure, I've had a few glitches like with any distro, but overall, my experience has been positive. I feel like they’re on the right track!
There's nothing fundamentally wrong with Pop!_OS, but the new Cosmic desktop environment they're developing is quite ambitious and may not be as polished as other established desktops like Gnome or KDE. Just know that while they're working hard on it, it might have some bumps along the way. Plus, it got some flak when Linus Tech Tips had some bad luck with it on their channel, which hasn't done its reputation any favors. Just know that a lot of effort is going into making it work!
Thanks for clarifying! It's good to know it's still evolving.
Cosmic is quite new and could be seen as being in a beta state. Also, if I'm not mistaken, it primarily uses its own app store without a traditional package manager, which can limit options a bit. Some users like me have found it helpful to use apt for package management, but it seems the integration with Flatpaks is where they'll often point you first.
Actually, Pop!_OS does use apt and deb packages similarly to Ubuntu, plus it incorporates Flatpaks, so you have some flexibility.
From what I've seen, the software store has been lagging. It could be due to how they're managing their repositories? Though, if you're on older hardware, that might be impacting performance more than anything else. You could also try switching to XFCE if Cosmic really bugs you.
XFCE is a lightweight option! If you’re having issues, it could be worth a shot to see if it boosts performance on older systems.
Pop!_OS is definitely a work in progress as they refine COSMIC. It's a solid project for sure, but compared to some other distros that have been around longer, it might feel a bit unfinished right now. Stick with it and things should improve!

I think a lot of users have reported some bugs during the transition to Cosmic, but it might improve over time.
