I recently posted about my new MacBook online and didn't realize I included the serial number and some barcodes. One commenter warned me that this could be a big deal, and now I'm really worried about what could happen because others have seen it. I don't have much tech experience, so I'm trying to figure out if I should be concerned. Can you help me understand the actual risks?

Honestly, you probably don’t have much to worry about. While someone could possibly report it as stolen, that would be super risky and illegal, so I doubt anyone would actually do that. Just stay calm!
I also have it under AppleCare, should I worry about false warranty claims?
Zero risks here! Your serial number isn’t publicly tied to you, so you should be just fine.
You’re pretty safe—the serial number isn't linked to your personal info at all. It’s mainly for Apple to track the product. The fact that you have it doesn’t provide anyone with useful details about you or your Mac.
Why do they censor serial numbers then?
I’ve never had any real issues with my serial number; it’s mostly for checking specs or getting updates. Did the commenter explain why it was a problem?
Actually, no.
Ok, that's reassuring.
