What budget components should I consider for a 4K video editing setup on Linux?

I'm looking to build a budget-friendly PC primarily for editing 4K videos from my GoPro Hero 11. Ideally, I want to find the lowest-end GPU and CPU that will still get the job done. Are there any older office PCs that could serve as a decent starting point? I'd love to keep the total cost around €500, but I'm open to options as a starting point that I can upgrade later on.

Trying to build something around €500 will be challenging for 4K editing. I’d suggest considering an older Mac Mini too, but here are a couple of budget builds:

1. Check out this build: [**Link to Build 1**](https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/MMsCv4). It’s right around your budget but will struggle a bit with a 2060 Super, especially when editing.

2. This second build is better but will go over your budget: [**Link to Build 2**](https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/jR7qXR). It might handle editing without too much trouble.

I’m thinking of going for a used computer now and upgrading later as needed. What do you think?

You might want to consider a used M1 Mac Mini. It's not exactly what you asked for, but you can often find them close to your budget if you look for older models. Just keep in mind that with €500, you might need to spend a bit more on storage later. But it could be a good start!

For 4K video editing, I’ve had a good experience with the Intel Arc A750. It’s a capable GPU that won’t break the bank. If you can find it used, it could be a good fit for your needs! Also, make sure your CPU isn’t too weak—balance is key.
