Hi everyone! I'm in a tough spot right now because it seems my Apple account has been hacked. After logging in, I was prompted to enter a verification code sent to a Mac Book Pro, which I've never owned. I then realized the recovery phone number associated with my account isn't mine either, making it impossible for me to recover my account through the usual steps. I've reached out to Apple Support but was told they can't assist me further without that phone number. I'm really frustrated because I still have access to my email and the correct password.
I'm looking for advice on a few things: 1) Is there anything else I can do to prove I own the account? 2) Does Apple have any legal obligations to help me reclaim my account if I can show that the email is mine? 3) If I'm out of options, what safety measures should I take with my email and other accounts? I've already changed my email password, but I'm worried about potential issues with my credit cards or other linked accounts. Any advice would be appreciated!

It sounds like a nightmare! Unfortunately, if you don’t know the recovery phone number, your account is probably lost for good. Apple’s support can’t help beyond that point. I'd suggest being proactive by monitoring your bank account for any unauthorized charges. If you see anything suspicious, definitely contact your bank. It might also be wise to replace any cards that could have been linked to your Apple account.
Have you set up any legacy contacts or account recovery options? It sounds like your account has really been compromised. Unfortunately, if the hacker set their own number for recovery, you might be in a tough spot with no other options.
Yeah, unfortunately, the hacker took control of the recovery options too. Without knowing their number, I can't access my account.
If you suspect your account is hacked, check out Apple's official support page for compromised accounts. However, it must be frustrating since it seems you can't follow through due to the new phone number setup.

Exactly! I think it's good that they removed your payment info already. If others are using your account for purchases, it might be worth looking into replacing the cards proactively.
