I've got an older Iiyama 24-inch monitor, probably around 12 years old, and it's recently started making a weird crackling noise that sounds like arcing. Since I work in tech, I thought I might have seen most issues, but this one's new to me. The monitor uses CCFL backlights, so could it be that the bulb is finally dying? The noise is coming from the top back of the monitor, not the speakers or anything like that.

I get where you're coming from, but even if you work in tech, not everyone is an expert in hardware. If the sound is concerning, it's probably best to look into it more. Just because it's still running doesn't mean it's problem-free. Sound tends to be a good indicator something is off!
If your monitor uses CCFL backlights, it might be time for a replacement. Those older models can give out after a while, and that crackling sound isn't a good sign. Luckily, monitors are pretty cheap these days, so you can find a decent one on eBay or even at charity shops for under £30. It's a good time for an upgrade if you're considering it!
Totally agree! The sounds might be telling you it’s time for a new one, and it could push you to finally get that bigger screen you've been eyeing!
Exactly! Knowing when to ask for help is just as important as fixing it yourself. I'm definitely considering my options!
