I'm looking to build a new PC and I want to pair it with my GeForce RTX 3070 and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. While I'm not focused on Ryzen options, I need a CPU that suits my use case, which is more than just gaming. I've been considering the Intel i5 14600K; is that a good choice? My budget for the CPU is around £250.

It's a bit tough to recommend a CPU without knowing exactly what you'll use it for beyond gaming. If you want a solid Intel option and you're set on not going Ryzen, the i5 14600K is decent. Just keep in mind the i9 14900K and Core Ultra 9 are the heavy hitters if you have a more flexible budget. But for your price range, the 14600K could work.

Yeah, the i5 14600K will handle most tasks well, especially with your RAM and GPU!

In my opinion, Ryzen just does so well across all categories these days. But if you're really set on staying with Intel, the i5 should be fine unless you're looking for super high-end performance. Also, Intel has some lower-end options for tight budgets, which might also be worth checking out, but don't sleep on Ryzen overall for value and power if you're flexible.

Honestly, without knowing your full budget, you could also look at the AMD 9950X3D. It's excellent for both gaming and productivity tasks, even if your focus isn't purely on games. Don’t let anyone tell you that AMD isn’t for productivity; they’ve made big strides!

If you aim for performance, the 14700KF is a solid choice. It's good if you're not interested in the x3d variant, but for gaming, the x3d has its perks. Just consider your overall setup since you're not just gaming.

It's interesting that you only budgeted for the CPU. Remember, you also need a cooler, motherboard, etc., which can affect your choices. If you're doing content creation or development work, consider if you actually need quicksync. AMD CPUs can be a valid choice for video editing and such.
