I'm new to the PC scene and I've got an older computer. I'm curious about how it stacks up against the average PC from back in 2018. Here are my specs: Intel i7 7700, 8GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM, AMD 5700 XT, air cooling, and a 1080p monitor with a 60Hz refresh rate. I figured the monitor info might be relevant too. Also, just so you know, I upgraded to the 5700 XT in 2021.

You might want to check out the Steam hardware survey from 2018; it gives a good insight into what was common around that time. June might be a good month to look at specifically!

That build aligns well with what was average in 2018, though some people did prefer the 8700k and 2070 Super. But honestly, your PC isn’t behind at all.

Your setup is still quite capable for gaming at 1080p. If you add another 8GB stick of RAM, it should keep you competitive with most games out there.

With my setup of a 7700k, 24GB DDR4, and a GTX 1060 6GB, I can say your rig is about average for 2018. People were really liking the performance without blowing budgets back then.

Your computer is far from old! It's still pretty average by 2018 standards. I would suggest getting 16GB of RAM in a dual-channel setup and ensuring your CPU is properly cooled. Think about upgrading your motherboard and CPU in a few years for better performance.
