I'm looking to set up a machine specifically designed for hosting and streaming my media files via Plex. I want it to have ample storage, but I'm not sure what other components or systems I might need besides a standard Windows machine and a lot of storage space. Any tips?

Instead of using Windows, you might want to consider a dedicated NAS operating system like UnRAID. I used to run my Plex on Windows, but switching to NAS has made things run smoother without all that overhead.
You should definitely get an LSI HBA (Host Bus Adapter). It’s a great way to connect multiple drives efficiently. It outperforms traditional motherboards, especially when handling a lot of storage devices.
What exactly makes it better than my gaming rig’s motherboard? I know it has several SATA slots.

I see your point, but I’m more familiar with Windows. This setup is for just streaming and storing my physical media, so I'm a bit hesitant to switch.
