What Does It Mean When My Laptop Goes into a Restart Loop?

I just had a pretty scary experience with my laptop. I left a bunch of tabs open in Google Chrome (mostly YouTube, Reddit, and a few random articles) and stepped away for a few minutes. When I came back and clicked a tab, my laptop froze and then blue screened with a message saying it needed to restart.

It kept trying to perform an automatic repair, but the blue screen kept reappearing. Eventually, I was given the option to shut down or try advanced repair, but I didn't know what to do, so I just shut it down. After that, it booted up again but gave me another blue screen, and I ended up having to manually power it off. I left it off for a minute, then powered it back on, and thankfully it started normally this time.

I caught a glimpse of the blue screen message, and I noticed the words "Error" and "Memory" mentioned. So, what exactly happened, and is there anything I should fix?

It sounds like you were stuck in a boot loop, which can happen if your system encounters a serious issue. The keywords "Error" and "Memory" you saw might indicate a problem with your RAM. I recommend running a memory test, often called a memtest, to check if your RAM is functioning properly. If you need guidance on how to do that, let me know!

Oh man, I really hope it’s nothing too serious! My laptop is only a year old too. How do I go about running a memtest? I keep seeing Memtest86 mentioned when I Google it.

Is having all those tabs open in Chrome part of the problem? I know Chrome can be super memory-intensive.
