What Essential Software Should We Consider for Managing IT Operations?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently overseeing IT operations for a growing environment with about 300-400 devices. For years, we managed everything manually, from updates to device management, without a good understanding of how our processes like SCCM/WSUS were functioning. This has been hectic, especially since we've seen rapid growth since Covid, going from around 200 devices to where we are now.

We recently began automating some of our processes and have made great strides with tools like PrinterLogic for printer management and we're looking into NinjaOne for remote support and patch management. We also have Intune licenses for all our users and are managing our Hybrid Azure AD Joined devices through it, but we feel like we haven't fully utilized it yet.

As we're trying to streamline our operations further, I'm wondering if there are critical software tools or systems we might be missing. We know we need an Asset Inventory solution among others, and management is open to purchases if we can justify them. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

You definitely need to look into asset inventory and monitoring tools. Lansweeper is a solid choice for inventory management, and you might want to pair it with a SIEM solution for better logging and security. And seriously, don’t forget about having a solid backup strategy in place.

We're currently using a device list from Intune for inventory, but I agree that's not enough. I’ll definitely check out Lansweeper and see how it works with our setup. We already back up endpoints and servers, but configuration backups are something we need to improve on. Thanks for your input!
