What Exactly is iMessages and How Do I Control It on My iPad?

Hey everyone! I'm really new to using my iPad, which I primarily use for drawing, and I don't have a SIM card—just Wi-Fi. Recently, I sent a text from my Samsung Android phone to someone, and I received their reply in the iMessages app on my iPad, but it's not showing up on my phone at all. How is that happening? Is iMessages linked to my phone number, email, or something else? Also, I want to turn it off, but I can't find any settings in the app. Any help would be awesome!

You can check in your iPad's settings by going to Settings > Messages > iMessage. Make sure iMessage is turned on or off based on what you want to do! If you don’t see 'Messages' in settings, just search for it in the settings search bar. It's a bit confusing for new users!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll look for it in the search bar.

Just to clarify, iMessage is the protocol Apple uses for sending messages over the internet, while the Messages app is where you manage them. It supports both iMessages and regular SMS/MMS when linked with an iPhone. You'll definitely want to check your settings to see what’s connected!

iMessages on your iPad can use any email address linked to your Apple ID, which may be why you're seeing messages there. If you want to turn off iMessages completely, just find the setting I mentioned earlier, and disabling it will stop them from coming through.
