Hey everyone! I just ran out of my 'saved memory' and I'm a bit confused about what that actually means. I noticed there wasn't a lot of text in the list of memories, so I'm guessing this is related to all the information that can be accessed throughout different conversations? Can someone explain how saved memory works and how it gets used?

Saved memory is how ChatGPT keeps track of information across conversations. As long as a thread is active, it remembers everything you’ve talked about. But once that thread ends (due to token limits), it won’t remember details when you start fresh. Basically, if something isn’t saved, ChatGPT won’t recall previous chats in a new thread.
Actually, saved memory isn't about running out of space; it's more about consent. If your memory isn't matching what you want, it feels like you're losing it, but really it’s about how the system prioritizes certain details over others. The memory is vast, but how it's accessed depends on the context of your conversations.
To manage saved memory, go into your settings > personalization > memory, and you'll find options to review what ChatGPT remembers. You can even delete memories if you want to clear things up or reset. It's pretty handy for keeping track of ongoing conversations!
I get that you're saying it manages context, but come on. The LLM isn't as complicated as folks make it seem. It works based on the context you provide in each new session. If I had your context set right, it could respond in the same way every time. Let's not overthink it!
