What file formats are compatible with SD cards for TVs?

I created an SD card filled with movies, videos, and songs, hoping I could just pop it into any TV with an SD card slot to watch. However, when I tried it on my Samsung smart TV, the majority of the files (mainly .mp4 and .mp3) were unsupported. Has anyone experienced this issue? I'd love to know what file types typically work best with most TVs.

Most modern devices support the H.264 codec. Older TVs might stick to XVid or even MPEG4. I recommend checking the documentation for your specific TV model to get precise info on supported formats.

Are most .mp4 videos already in H.264, or do I need to convert them? Also, does the SD card need any specific formatting?
