What GPU Should I Upgrade to for My 9800X3D at 1440p Gaming?

I've just built a new gaming rig with a 9800X3D processor, but I'm still using my old RTX 3080 with 10GB of VRAM. I'm looking to upgrade to a graphics card that has more VRAM and is more efficient. I play a variety of games, but Fortnite is the only one I play competitively. I've been eyeing the Radeon 9070 XT because of its price, but I had a bad experience with AMD in Fortnite a while back. Are the drivers and performance issues better now with the newer AMD cards, or should I just stick with NVIDIA and spend more on a 5080 or 5070 Ti?

The 9070 XT seems to be the way to go, especially with the performance gains over previous AMD cards. While the 5080 might offer some improvements, it's typically not worth the extra cost for just a marginal boost. Just keep an eye on your budget, and if you're set on sticking with NVIDIA, the 5070 Ti is a solid choice too, with all the extra features that come with their ecosystem.

Solid advice! I was leaning towards the 5070 Ti too, but that price tag is hefty.

Totally agree! The 9070 XT has good value right now.

I recently switched to the 9070 XT from a 3080, and I'm super happy with it. I play at 1440p on a 360Hz display, and it handles everything smoothly. If you’re worried about VRAM issues from back in the day with AMD, those are mostly sorted with the newer cards. Plus, the price-to-performance ratio is hard to beat right now. It's made me consider selling my console since gaming feels so much better on my PC now!

What kind of cooling do you have? I've heard the 9070 XT can get pretty hot.

Glad to hear you're happy with it! Did you notice any performance drops in demanding games?

If you're considering an AMD card, the 9070 XT is a great option and has improved a lot over previous generations. Most users have noticed their recent drivers have been pretty stable. I'd say go for it if you're on a budget; just avoid the 5060 Ti 16GB if possible. Your 3080 is still solid, but it might struggle a bit at 1440p if you're pushing intense graphics settings in some games. But in Fortnite, it should perform well enough since it usually doesn’t use all 10GB of VRAM at that resolution.

What specific issues did you have with the AMD GPU before? I'm also considering making the switch but want to be sure!

My 3080 is also good, but I'm worried about VRAM too! Maybe I should look into the 9070.
