I currently have a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 EAGLE OC LHR 12GB GDDR6 and want to make a substantial upgrade for gaming. There are a lot of choices across both AMD and NVIDIA, so I'm unsure which card offers the best performance and value for a budget of around $900–$1,000. I'd prefer an upgrade that makes a noticeable difference, especially for 1440p gaming, rather than spending the money on a card that is only marginally faster.

The used market could open up some interesting choices. A used RX 7900 XTX or RTX 5070 Ti might occasionally fall near $900, depending on your location and the seller. Just check the card’s condition, warranty, power requirements, and return policy carefully. A used RTX 5080 would be attractive too, but it will usually be difficult to find within this budget.
I’d look at the RX 9070 XT first. If you can find one at a good price, an RTX 5070 Ti could also make sense, but availability and pricing may push it above your limit. Cards below that level probably wouldn’t be a large enough improvement over the RTX 3060 to justify spending this much.
That makes sense—I’m mainly trying to avoid paying a lot for an upgrade that doesn’t feel substantially faster.
The Radeon RX 9070 XT is probably the strongest value in this price range, particularly for 1440p gaming. It should be a major jump from your RTX 3060, and several models fit comfortably within the budget. NVIDIA options are worth considering if you specifically want features like CUDA or stronger ray-tracing support, but the similarly priced RTX 5070 may not offer as much raw performance for the money.
Used RTX 5070 Ti cards are often closer to $1,000–$1,200, so I wouldn’t count on finding one under budget unless there’s a particularly good deal.
