What Is This Metal Piece Next to My GPU Slot For?

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building my PC and it's been a while since I last did this. I have a Gigabyte B850M Gaming X motherboard and I'm trying to install my graphics card. However, I've come across this metal piece right next to the PCIe slot, and I'm confused about what to do with it. I've gone through all the manuals and searched YouTube videos, but I'm still stuck. It looks like it's a metal shield for the GPU, it's removable, and there's a sticky compound on the underside. Should I remove the tape and flip it over? Does it need to stick to my GPU? Or should I just leave it alone?

That sticky part probably means you've removed an M.2 heatsink. If you don’t have an M.2 NVMe SSD to put in that slot, I’d suggest putting it back on and leaving it as is. The GPU install is straightforward and isn't related to that piece. YouTube might help once you find the right guide!

YouTube hasn’t been my friend today. I found something for the B850 but not the B850M, and it’s really confusing. I’ll figure out how to install that M.2 NVMe next!
