I just got a new SATA drive from a friend and formatted it for use. While installing a game on this drive, I stumbled upon a random .txt file named RichTapCore.log. I couldn't find any information on it, and my searches led me to believe it relates to some haptic software, but I haven't installed anything like that on my PC. Can anyone help me understand where this file might have come from?

It's common for certain software, including games, to create log files that end up on the drive even if you don't explicitly install them. They can sometimes be linked to system drivers or SDKs that the game uses without you even realizing it. Try checking any installed games and their support forums for info on SDKs if you're concerned. You might get some insights there!
It sounds like that file could have been created during the game installation process. Sometimes games and programs can leave behind unexpected files, especially if they utilize some SDK. If you're worried about it, you could try reformatting the drive again and reinstalling the game to see if it comes back. Just make sure you take a good look at the installation settings in case it's set to use something from the old drive.
But if it came from the game installation, shouldn't it be located in the game's folder rather than a random text file on the drive? That’s what’s confusing me.
If you're really unsure about that file, you could always format the drive again. Just run the Command Prompt as an admin and type the commands: Diskpart, then List Disk to find your new SSD's label, followed by Select Disk and Clean to wipe it. Then, create a new partition and format it. That way, you should have a completely clean slate if there’s anything you missed.
I actually did all that already, and the file still appeared after I started installing. I thought I’d cleared everything!

Yeah, it definitely feels suspicious that a file just appeared out of nowhere. I hope more pages show up about this SDK thing.
