What kind of computer should I get for college as an art history major?

Hey everyone! I'm heading into my senior year of high school and I'm gearing up to buy a computer for college. I'm planning to study art history and will be taking a number of art and humanities courses. I'm leaning towards a Mac since I've never had a nice computer before and I hear they're user-friendly. I'm also wondering about durability – should I choose the MacBook Air or the MacBook Pro? Any recommendations or advice for someone who's never owned a computer before?

Unless you have specific needs that require a Mac, I'd steer clear. Generally, Macs tend to become obsolete quickly, and Apple isn't known for great servicing of their laptops. A Windows laptop offers better value, more program options, and they're not that hard to use!

I’d recommend the MacBook Air for your needs. You probably don’t need to spend extra on the Pro unless you plan on doing intensive graphics work. You can also check out the subreddit r/SuggestALaptop for tailored advice on laptops for your situation.

Have you considered an entry-level gaming PC? They can handle all your needs and usually last four years or more without any issues.

If you're an art history major, it might be wise to spend as little as possible on the computer. Macs can be pricey, and you may not need all the features they offer.

Definitely check with your college for any specific computer recommendations, especially from your department. They might even have deals or student discounts available, and some schools provide students with computers!
