What language should I learn next if I’m familiar with SAS?

I've got some experience with SAS and I'm interested in learning a second programming language. I want to know which language would be the easiest transition for someone already familiar with SAS, without any bias from my field of work. Looking for opinions from fellow SAS users on the best next step!

If you're already using SAS, I'd say R would be the easiest next step for you. It's another stats-focused language so you won’t feel too lost. But if you want something that’s more versatile and widely used, Python is the way to go. I’ve worked with all three, and Python definitely opens more doors with its capabilities.

Totally agree! R is perfect for what you’re already doing with SAS, and the syntax is similar enough to make learning smoother.

I haven't used SAS myself but I hear that R is pretty user-friendly for statistical work, which sounds like your jam. Python is also a great choice, especially for data science and machine learning if you want to branch out further. You might also want to check out Julia if you're feeling adventurous!

I've used R quite a bit and also had to learn SAS. Honestly, if you can handle SAS, you can tackle just about any language. And yes, SQL counts as a language too! Looking at Python would benefit you in the long run since it's very versatile and in demand.

The choice of language really depends on what you're looking to achieve with it. Don't just focus on ease, think about what you need it for. If you have a specific goal in mind, find a language that suits that best!
