What Linux Distro Should I Choose for Learning AWS and DevOps?

I'm trying to figure out which Linux distribution would be best for me as I dive into learning AWS and DevOps. My college primarily uses Ubuntu, but I'm not a fan of its desktop environment. Previously, I used Fedora for a couple of months. Also, I have an Nvidia GPU and I've heard there can be compatibility issues, which is why I'm concerned about my choice. Any recommendations?

Using a Debian or Ubuntu-based distro is usually a safe bet for cloud and network infrastructure. However, you may find that each distro has its pros and cons based on your specific needs. If you need something stable and minimal, Debian could be worthwhile too.

Thanks for the help! Is there a particular reason you think Debian is better?

Debian's stability is great for server environments, while Ubuntu adds a bit more user-friendliness.

If you’re not fond of Ubuntu’s interface, you might want to check out Linux Mint or Pop!_OS. They both offer user-friendly interfaces and should work well with AWS. Remember, you can change desktop environments if you don’t like the default one. That's part of the beauty of Linux!

I appreciate the suggestions! I’ll definitely consider those options.

Yeah, don’t forget the option to customize your DE—there’s a lot of flexibility!

I've heard a lot of good things about Fedora for cloud solutions—it’s basically a free version of RHEL which is popular in enterprise environments. But honestly, almost any modern distro will work fine for your needs. Just make sure to try things out in a virtual machine if you're unsure.

Thanks for the tips! I'm looking at Fedora KDE as a potential choice.

Yeah, Fedora is a solid option. You can easily switch DEs if you want something different.

It really depends on your preferences, but if you want something more customizable, Gentoo could be a great choice. Just be prepared to put in the time and effort to really learn the ins and outs of it. That said, it sounds like you're still getting a grip on the basics, so maybe start with something a bit more straightforward. Also, what’s the Nvidia GPU for? Are you planning to use it for machine learning or just graphic rendering?

Honestly, I think it's a bit much for someone just starting out. You might be better off with something easier to manage. Gentoo can be a beast!

Haha, Gentoo is intense! You might be happy with something like Arch or even sticking with Fedora. It’s all about your comfort level.
