I'm curious about what Linux distributions people are using at work, especially in 2025. Specifically, do you think it's still worthwhile to learn Red Hat Enterprise Linux given the controversies surrounding the company recently? Also, I'm wondering if obtaining a Linux certification is worth the effort.

I run Alpine for containers and a mix of RHEL and Ubuntu where necessary. RHEL certification is definitely worth it because it's recognized everywhere and you gain practical skills.
How does Alpine perform in terms of stability? I've heard good things, but I'm a bit skeptical.
For me, it's Debian all the way. I find it extremely stable and always reliable. I tried many distros but keep coming back to Debian. It's the backbone of my work systems.
Linux Mint Debian Edition is also great if you want a user-friendly GUI!
You're spot on about stability. It seems like a lot of people in IT prefer Debian for its reliability.
I've mainly been using Ubuntu Pro and RHEL since they are FIPS compliant, which is crucial for my work in government contracts. It's a solid setup as they both have the reliability needed for compliance.
I've been exploring Ubuntu Pro as well, and I'm curious if you actually receive support for issues. What has your experience been with it?
SUSE is also FIPS compliant. Just thought I'd add that!
Definitely stick with RHEL if you're serious about a career in Linux. The certs are respected and can really help you stand out. Just be aware of what they've done recently; it's good to know both sides.
Yeah, do spill! I've been out of the loop and want to know what's changed.
What are some of those controversial things Red Hat has done? I've heard whispers about it.
I'm all about RHEL and Oracle Linux for production environments, but I also dabble with a little Ubuntu and CentOS. Generally, RHEL gets the job done for anything mission-critical.
Wow, I didn't know Solaris was still in the game! Do you have it running alongside RHEL?
Alpine is great for lightweight containers, but I'd love to understand its stability better.
