What Linux OS should I install on my dad’s old computer?

My dad is giving me his old computer, which has 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive. I'm looking for recommendations on which Linux operating system to install. I'm particularly interested in an OS that runs Steam smoothly and allows me to customize the boot screen—I'm thinking of making it a giant hand ripping the Windows menu in half. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I'd recommend starting with Linux Mint Cinnamon. It's user-friendly, making it great for beginners, and once you feel comfortable, you can explore other options and tutorials, especially if you're curious about the terminal. Just a heads up, you probably meant a 1 TB hard drive since you mentioned having 16 GB of RAM!

But doesn't Mint have issues with GPU drivers for some cards?

If you're feeling adventurous, start with Arch Linux! It might be challenging, but it's the best way to really learn how Linux works and get a setup that suits you.
