What Motherboard Should I Choose for an AM5 Upgrade?

I'm considering upgrading my system to use AM5, particularly for gaming titles like Call of Duty that necessitate TMP and secure boot. Some motherboards have been suggested by AI tools, including options from ChatGPT and Gemini. From ChatGPT, I've seen recommendations for several B850 models: ASUS ROG Strix B850-F Gaming WiFi, ASUS TUF Gaming B850-Plus, MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk, and Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite. Meanwhile, Gemini suggests the ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi and GIGABYTE B650 AORUS Elite AX.

I'm eyeing the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Processor, which features 3D V Cache technology, integrated Radeon Graphics, and has 8 cores/16 threads.

My main concern is the mixed reviews on reliability; about 1% of reviewers report serious issues like PCIe problems after a few months, even though most feedback appears positive. The thought of reinstalling everything with a 5090 GPU only adds to my anxiety, as it's tricky to predict if a motherboard might fail relatively soon. Here are my current specs: ASUS ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 OC, Intel Core i9-12900K, Noctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler, Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 32GB RAM, MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 Motherboard, and Crucial P310 2TB SSD.

If you're looking for something budget-friendly, check out the B650 from Gigabyte for around $140. It's a solid option for your AM5 needs!

Honestly, you could have just asked the community instead of waiting for AI advice! The ASUS 870XE is a really strong motherboard; definitely worth considering.

Honestly, I wouldn't stress too much about the 1% of negative reviews; every motherboard seems to have a few horror stories. If you're set on the upgrade, just make sure you really want the change—it's a big leap, especially since you’ll need to switch to DDR5 RAM too. For your setup, the high-end B850 boards should serve you well, especially the Tomahawk or the ones suggested earlier. They’re pretty comparable to the X870 boards in functionality, but if budget allows, go for the X870 for that extra connectivity! Oh, and keep an eye out for the new Tomahawk Max WiFi II coming soon.

Forget those AI recommendations, I have the Aorus B850 Elite and it’s been fantastic! Tons of connectors for all your peripherals, plus it’s sleek without excessive RGB. I think it's a solid choice for your upgrade.

That's awesome to hear! How long have you owned it? Any issues with it so far? I’m just nervous about running into problems, especially with my expensive GPU!
