I've heard becoming a sysadmin isn't an entry-level position—is that true? I'm curious about how much experience is really needed and what programming languages would be most beneficial to learn. I've completed my CCNA and I'm planning to get my RHCSA. What important certifications should I aim for, and what languages should I focus on learning?

Your friend is right; sysadmin roles do tend to require more experience than entry-level. Having a broad understanding of how various systems interact is vital. Just keep in mind that many sysadmins started without formal training and became great at problem-solving over time by engaging with different systems.

Honestly, I didn’t go through any formal learning for programming and just dabbled as I got into Linux. Think of it as learning through curiosity! While I don't consider myself a programmer, having that hands-on experience really helped me understand how to tackle issues without freaking out at the command line.

If you're working with Windows, PowerShell is a must. For Linux, you definitely want to get familiar with Bash. Python can also be a great asset due to its versatility across platforms.

For sure! Having some knowledge of Bash and even DOS can really help you out with PowerShell.

I think you're on the right track! Python is super useful and learning it can help you grasp Object-Oriented Programming, which is pretty essential. But remember, programming isn’t the only skill you need as a sysadmin—it's more about being resourceful and knowing how to troubleshoot issues effectively.
