What RAM Speed and Latency Should I Choose for My Build?

I've been out of the PC building scene for a bit, so I'm a bit lost on RAM options. I'm looking at some DDR5 RAM with speeds of 6400, 6800, 7200, and 7600 MHz, and the timings available are CL30, CL32, CL34, and CL36. What's the best combination of speed and latency for my build?

It really depends on your CPU! If you're using a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, you'll want to maximize that performance. Typically, aim for at least 6000 MHz, CL38 or lower, which is a sweet spot for gaming. Trying to stick around $300 would give you some good options too!

For the best performance, I’d suggest going with 7200 MHz if your board can handle it. The lower CL, like CL30, is also preferable since it means less latency. Just make sure your motherboard supports those speeds with your CPU.

You might find a good balance with 6800 MHz and CL32. It’s a good mix of performance without breaking the bank, especially if you're looking for something below $300. Plus, that should work nicely with your setup!
