What Salary Can I Expect as a Junior Platform Engineer in Fintech?

I'm currently in the interview process with a few financial firms in central London, including a global payments technology company and a midsize hedge fund/quant trading firm. Both positions are for junior or associate roles in platform and infrastructure engineering. I have 1.5 years of experience in a DevOps environment and a solid foundational knowledge in infrastructure and platform engineering, though I haven't formally held those titles yet. I want to know what kind of compensation I should expect in these positions, as the data on levels.fyi and Glassdoor seems limited for these niche roles. While financials won't be my only consideration, I'm looking for a clearer idea of what's considered fair in the financial industry. Any insights would be appreciated!

Salaries can really vary based on location. Are you based in London? If the companies are in central London, you might be looking at a higher range than in other areas. Just keep that in mind while you negotiate!

Yeah, I should've mentioned that! Both companies are indeed in central London.

What kind of offers are you getting? For that payment solution company, I heard they might be starting around £40k to low £50k, but it sounds like you're not getting a precise number yet. The hedge fund might be better since recruiters often underrate their offers. Remember, they laughed at your minimum of £45k – that's a good sign!

Exactly, the recruiter hinted that the hedge fund would definitely be above my minimum, which is promising!
