What should I do after dropping my iPhone in soup?

Hi there! I just created this account out of concern for my iPhone 16. I accidentally dropped it in soup for a brief moment (the bottom half got submerged for maybe 1-2 seconds), and I immediately took it out. I've dried it off with paper towels and used wet wipes to clean the oily residue on the outside. I even used a wooden toothpick to clear out what looked like soup in the charging port. It was a cream soup, just for context! I shut the phone off right away and it's been drying for about two hours now. I've read that I should clean the charging port with isopropyl alcohol, but I don't have any, and I'm scared about rinsing it with water since I don't want to cause any damage. I've seen different advice online; some say the salt in the soup could lead to corrosion. ChatGPT said I did pretty well so far, but I just want to be sure that I won't damage it further. Any tips?

It sounds like it's going to be fine! You’ve done a good job with the drying. Just give it a little more time to rest.

LOL! Better than me; I once dropped my phone in a toilet! At least you can clean yours without anything gross. You'll be okay!

I'm no expert, but I’ve dealt with something similar before. Best advice is to let it sit overnight to dry completely. It sounds like it might be fine after all that drying you’ve done!

You should definitely consider using distilled water and isopropyl alcohol for cleaning. If the iPhone 16 is waterproof and you haven't had prior damage, you should be fine! Just ensure you clean the ports gently.

Thanks! I don’t have either at home right now and all the stores are closed. Will it be okay if I wait until tomorrow to do this?

For sure! Just give it some time to dry completely. You’ll be okay.
