Hey everyone, I've had my RTX 4090 running perfectly for about three years. After moving recently, I disconnected everything, and now that I've set it all back up, I heard a spark noise from the 12V HWPR connection when I powered on the PC. I turned it off immediately, but I'm feeling really anxious about it! I didn't smell any smoke or anything unusual, but I want to make sure it's safe to try powering it on again. I think the connections look solid, but I'm just not sure what to do next. Any advice? Here's a picture of the hook-up: https://i.imgur.com/pCQPUqJ.jpeg

Hearing a spark can definitely be alarming! First things first, make sure to double-check your connections. Sometimes, cables might look fine but aren't fully plugged in. Also, since you mentioned the adapter diverges into multiple ports, ensure you're using the right configuration. If you only have three VGA cables connected, that could potentially cause issues. Try reseating the 12-pin connector and see if that helps before turning it back on!
I feel you on the anxiety! It's definitely possible something might be off with the connections. The fact that you heard a spark but there was no smoke is a good sign, but I'd recommend checking the adapter cable closely to see if anything seems damaged. If you're still nervous, you could always take the GPU to a shop for a second opinion before turning your PC back on. Safety first!
Yeah, definitely consult an expert if you can! Sometimes it’s worth it just to ease your mind.

I totally get your concern! If you're unsure, consider running a stress test on the PSU first before booting up again. Better safe than sorry, right?
