Hey everyone, I'm a 21-year-old college student who accidentally had a beer explode in my backpack, soaking the bottom sixth of my laptop and some notebooks. I discovered it about 15 minutes later. The laptop turned on and seemed fine at first, but after I wiped it down with a disinfecting wipe (maybe not the best move), it wouldn't turn on the next time I tried. The power button feels sticky, and I think the battery might have been low when this happened. The school tech support quoted me $400-$600 for repairs without even checking it, which seems way too high. Is this something I can attempt to fix myself, or will I just make it worse?

Moisture and electronics don’t mix well, especially when the device is powered on. Think about the potential risks before trying anything!

That’s a hefty price tag, but honestly, they might just be avoiding the hassle of fixing it since it happened from a spill. I get that mistakes happen, but it's a bit risky to keep drinks near a laptop. Just be careful next time!
I’d recommend using alcohol-based wipes on the power button to try and clear up that stickiness. Just be careful with how much moisture you're using, since excess liquid can be risky for electronics.
Exactly! And hey, it was an accident, but make sure you're careful with electronics in the future. You got this!
