I accidentally spilled some Diet Pepsi on my laptop while it was in sleep mode. After the spill, I quickly unplugged it, powered it off, and soaked up as much of the soda as I could. I opened it up and removed the battery connector, disassembling everything except for the CPU and VRAM heatsinks and the keyboard, which I can't remove without breaking it since it's riveted. I used some 70% IPA alcohol pads to clean up, but I only found a little soda inside—the main areas were around the casing and under the touchpad ribbon connector, plus the fan, but not on the motherboard. Is it safe to turn it on now, or should I wait a couple of days? Is there anything else I should do?

If it was Diet Coke, you'd have a bigger issue since it’s stickier! Diet Pepsi isn't as bad, since it doesn’t have as much sugar. But remember, your laptop was in sleep mode, so it may not know what happened to it. Still, I wouldn’t risk turning it on too soon.
Yeah, definitely safer to wait before turning it on. It’s hard to predict what might happen with moisture inside the laptop.
Sounds like you handled the situation pretty well! Just so you know, alcohol doesn't remove sugars, so it's a good idea to use some water to clean off any stickiness and then follow up with alcohol to help it dry out. Just be careful when you turn it on; it might be wise to wait a day or two to ensure everything is completely dry before you test it out.
