What should I do if I think my laptop has a keylogger?

I've got a serious concern: I believe I might have a keylogger on my laptop running Windows 11. When I'm connected to the internet, I notice extremely high memory and CPU usage, which goes back to normal once I disconnect. A few nights ago, I tried downloading some extra content for a game from a post I found, but nothing happened after I ran it. However, I discovered a suspicious new folder in my app data that appeared right after I executed the program. It contains a .cmd file, remote access items, and some basic programs that look outdated for Windows 11. I haven't entered any sensitive information, but I did log into Discord, and now my account has been hacked. What should I do next to protect myself?

First things first, back up any important files and consider reinstalling Windows. It's a pain, but it’s the best way to ensure everything is clean. Also, make sure to change your passwords afterward!

I wouldn’t use that computer anymore until you can clear it completely. Cut off all network connections, clear the CMOS to reset the BIOS, format your drive, and then reinstall Windows with a fresh key. Additionally, consider deleting your Discord account or reaching out to their support for help with it.

Yeah, definitely keep an eye on your computer afterwards for any strange behavior. It’s better to be safe!

Check your Task Manager to see which processes are consuming a lot of RAM and CPU. If you feel confident that you’ve been hacked, reinstall Windows from a USB made on a different computer and change all your passwords from there.

For immediate action, disconnect from the internet and reset your router. After that, you should definitely reinstall Windows using a USB stick. Also, enable two-factor authentication on your accounts and remove any unknown devices from your profiles!
