I'm in a bit of a situation here. My friend gave me a 750-watt power supply (PSU) because he just upgraded to a new one. Previously, I was using a 600-watt PSU, and with my power-hungry 3080 GPU, I really needed the extra wattage. However, the catch is that the new PSU only comes with two modular SATA power cables, and I don't have any other compatible cables at hand. I've heard that connecting an external SATA cable directly to the PSU might be risky and could potentially damage my hard drives. So, what are my options?

If you're not comfortable finding the right cables, think about going for a custom cable service. There are companies like CableMod where you can specify exactly what you need for your PSU model.
You definitely want to stick with modular cables that are specifically compatible with your PSU model. Mixing cables from different PSUs can lead to some serious issues, including frying your hardware.
That makes sense! I’ll check with the manufacturer to find the right cables.
Are you sure how many drives you need to power? Each SATA cable usually supports multiple drives, so you might be able to connect a few of them to one cable. Just a thought!
I've got five drives, but I only have two cables. Looks like I’ll still need to find a solution.
Consider using a SATA power splitter if you’re in a bind. They let you use one SATA connection to power multiple devices without the danger of fry-ups, as long as you don’t overload it. Just make sure it’s a quality product!
That sounds like a useful option! I'll definitely look into that.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll check them out.
