A few weeks ago, my Apollo e-scooter was stolen, and I filed a police report right away. Recently, I got an email from Apollo saying that someone is trying to connect their phone to my scooter. They provided me with the person's IP address and email, which I included in my police report. The email is actually this person's full name, and I was able to find their Facebook and Instagram profiles. However, when I checked the IP address, it seems to show their current coordinates, which isn't very helpful. I'm wondering if I should reach out to them on social media to confront them about stealing my scooter. Any advice?

Definitely do not reach out! Just discuss everything with the police; they’re the ones trained to deal with situations like this.
Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to wait a week or two for the police to act. I thought about contacting him myself because I figured it might be quicker, but now I see it's better not to rush it. It's frustrating since I'm in Montreal, and bike thefts are super common; it's hard to have faith they'll find my scooter.
I agree with others, let the cops do their job. They’ll have better resources to deal with this.
Just a heads up, that IP address won’t provide a precise location for where he is at the moment he connected. It usually just gives an approximate area.
I wouldn't contact the thief directly. That could put you in a tough spot if they try to get rid of the scooter again. Since the police know who they are, let them handle it – they can track this person down better.
Thanks for the info! I thought the same after looking into it. I used to think each device had a unique IP too.
