I'm gearing up to build my PC using an MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard that I bought last year, before the AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D was available. I haven't used the motherboard yet and am coming from an Intel build, so I'm a bit lost. I know I need to update the BIOS, but I don't have an older Ryzen CPU to do that. Can I still proceed with my build, or do I need a new motherboard?

Just to clarify, you can go ahead and build your PC even if the motherboard is a bit outdated. It's probably best to update the BIOS afterward though, as this will ensure compatibility with your new CPU. You might run into some issues if you try to use the new Ryzen chip without that update, but overall you should be fine.

So just to confirm, it'll power up and I can do the BIOS update later, right? That's really my main concern here.
