I've been asking around about upgrading my computer that I bought from someone on a marketplace. I got some solid recommendations, like going with the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X and an AM4 B550 motherboard. I plan to swap out parts, like the CPU and add more RAM. However, I'm curious about what I should keep in mind for future upgrades. I've read that some people run into BIOS update issues when changing components. Would I need an additional computer for that?

The 5600X isn't significantly faster than the 5600; it's just slightly better. Some users even find that the 5700X is a better value since it adds a couple of extra cores for a small price increase. Most B550 motherboards are fine with the Ryzen 5000 series right out of the box, and they'll often advertise that they're ready for this range on the packaging.
When you're thinking about the future, the AM4 socket isn't going to give you a lot of upgrade options since it's mostly phased out. If you go with the R5 5600 or the 5600X, you're pretty much at the ceiling for that motherboard, so major upgrades might be limited. About the BIOS updates, it really depends on your motherboard's age. If it's newer, probably no update needed, but if it’s old, then yeah, you might have to update it.
