I've recently downsized my gaming setup and sold my good PC, but now I want to improve the performance of my current setup which features an Intel i7 4770 and an RX 580. I enjoy the challenge and am looking for advice on where to start with upgrades. I've been reading about various CPU and motherboard combos online, but I'm not quite sure what would give me the best boost in performance for gaming. Any suggestions on what to upgrade first?

I'd suggest upgrading your CPU first. Modern games typically require at least 6 cores to run smoothly, and your DDR3 RAM is on the slower side. If you're on a tighter budget, the Ryzen 5 5600 paired with a used RX 5700 XT could be a solid choice. But if you can stretch your budget a bit, consider going for a new RX 6800 XT for much better gaming performance.

It really depends on your budget. Here's a quick breakdown:

- For over $2,000, look at the AMD 9800X3D and high-end GPUs like the 4090.
- If you're under $1,200, you might want to go for something like the Intel i5-13400F or 14600K.
- In the $1,200-$1,800 range, both Ryzen 7 7800X3D and i5-14600K are great picks.

Generally, I allocate about half my budget for the graphics card when building. So if you spend $60 on a case, $80 on a PSU, and $60 on an SSD, that's $200 right off the bat. Then you can invest in a solid CPU and motherboard that pairs well with a capable GPU.

Absolutely, you could go for a combo deal that offers a better motherboard and DDR5 RAM with the i5-13400F for a decent price. For instance, spending a little extra on the motherboard can greatly improve your system's potential. Just make sure to balance your overall spending to get the best performance for your money!
