Hey everyone! I just got a Radeon 6950XT for free from my cousin and I'm looking to upgrade my PC. My current setup includes a GTX 1080, a Ryzen 3600X processor, and 16GB of RAM (2x8). I don't play the latest games, mostly emulators or some Minecraft with shaders, and I play Fortnite occasionally with friends. I'm not looking to spend a lot right now—my budget is around $600. Any advice on what upgrades would be best?

A solid upgrade for your setup would be to grab a Ryzen 5600 or 5700X CPU. These are great upgrades over your current 3600, and they'll really help unleash the power of that 6950XT!
If you want the best bang for your buck, I’d recommend the Ryzen 5700X for a nice boost. It might also be worth considering more RAM—32GB would really help streamline your gaming and multitasking experience if the budget allows!
Is a new motherboard really needed for that?
First off, you'll want to confirm your budget since it sounds like you're aiming for a balance of cost and performance. Your motherboard does support Ryzen 5000 series CPUs, so going for a 5800XT or even his performance-minded 5700X3D might be good options if you can find them at a decent price.

Totally agree! I switched to a 5600X a while back and I've been really happy with the performance. Plus, if you can swing it, a RX6600 and some extra RAM would complete your setup nicely!
