I've been a Mac user for about 8 years now after switching from Windows, and the one app I miss the most is Notepad++. I've tried Atom, but it seems it's no longer supported, and the built-in text editor on Mac just doesn't cut it for me. VS Code can be a bit of a hassle with containers auto-starting and multiple prompts for new files. I'm looking for a text editor that's simple, supports tabs, has a decent search feature, can handle huge files, provides temp saving, and I'm okay with paid options as well. What do you guys recommend?

If you're feeling nostalgic, Microsoft Word 95 works for quick notes too, just kidding! Seriously though, give Nova by Panic a try—it’s solid.
Sublime Text is my go-to for note-taking and editing. It's reliable and offers a great user experience for handling text files.
Check out Zed at zed.dev. It's a new editor that might fit your needs perfectly!
TextMate2 is another great option. It's user-friendly and quite powerful for text editing.
I just stick to editing in VS Code or Cursor. They meet all my needs.
I use VS Code and can’t see what the fuss is about. It's perfect for working on multiple projects, especially when you're dealing with larger code bases. But if you prefer something lightweight, Sublime Text is also a solid choice!
Totally agree! For bigger projects with lots of files, I find that VS Code's ecosystem is unbeatable compared to simpler editors.
For a really simple option, I recommend CotEditor. It’s straightforward but effective for plain text.
Neovim or vim works for me. Once you get used to it, it’s incredibly efficient!
I totally get your struggle with file management in Finder. Personally, I usually just create and edit files using the terminal.
Same here! Finder's UI feels stuck in the past, it's hard to navigate.
RIP to the GOAT, TextMate was ahead of its time!
