What to do about a weird green line on my monitor?

I recently cleaned my monitor and everything seemed fine, but while watching YouTube, I suddenly spotted a green vertical line on the side of the screen. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there right after cleaning; it's really noticeable since I was using light mode. I've tried restarting my monitor and my PC, plus I reset the monitor to its factory settings, but that didn't help. I even left the monitor unplugged for a while, but the line is still there.

The line itself consists of green pixels running from the top to the bottom of the screen, and oddly enough, the color changes sometimes—like it shifted from green to light blue and back again. More troubling, the screen has started flashing, so I unplugged it. I really can't afford to buy a new monitor anytime soon, so I'm hoping for a solution here.

One thing I've learned is that these types of problems can escalate. My TV had a similar dead streak for years, but we just learned to live with it. If it's just the monitor doing this, it's probably just a matter of time before it goes completely.

It sounds like your monitor is on the fritz. It might be a failing display since you mentioned the color changes and now the flashing. Unfortunately, these issues can get worse over time. You might have to get used to that line for now until you can get it replaced.

If the brand is ThinkVision, maybe it’s a GPU issue or the monitor is just aging. Might be worth checking the connection to the GPU too if you can, just in case.

Totally agree, sometimes it’s just a loose cable! Definitely worth checking.

Funny you mention luck! Sounds like you've had a mixed bag with that monitor. I’ve had a friend who managed to get rid of streaks by gently massaging the screen. Check out some videos on "rub display lines" on YouTube; it might help you get through until you can get a new one.

That method can actually work for some people! Just be gentle and take your time with it.
