What to Do About High CPU Usage on My 9800X3D?

I recently built my first PC and it has a 9800X3D processor along with a B850 Aorus Elite motherboard and a 3080 graphics card. I noticed that while playing games like Valorant and PUBG, my CPU usage sometimes hits 106%, but my temperatures stay between 57 and 62 degrees Celsius. Since I'm new to using an AMD CPU (I used to have an Intel i9-10900KF), I'm unsure if such high CPU usage is normal. I've heard about issues with the 9800X3D overheating, and I don't want to risk damaging it. Is there a way to fix or monitor this high CPU usage?

I would check Task Manager as well. Sometimes, these software tools just show readings incorrectly. If you're seeing around 90-100% usage there during gaming, it’s quite normal due to the intensive tasks. I wouldn't panic unless you start seeing temperatures rise dangerously high.

High CPU usage can be common, especially with demanding games. You're most likely encountering a misreading from the KANALI software. When you check in Task Manager, you should get more accurate readings. It might show you less than 100% during idle, which is normal. If your temps are fine, I wouldn't worry too much about it affecting your CPU health.

Right, I looked at Task Manager and saw the same high numbers too. It’s a little worrying since my previous CPU didn’t hit those levels. Just trying to figure out if it's a common thing with AMD processors.

Seeing 106% CPU usage sounds alarming, but it's likely a software glitch. Your CPU can’t actually exceed 100% usage, so this might just be a misreading from the KANALI software you're using. Typically, high CPU usage happens when you're pushing for high fps or performing demanding tasks, and it's not damaging unless it’s consistently overheating. You might want to try monitoring your CPU usage with a program like MSI Afterburner to get more reliable data.

I’ve noticed the same high readings on those programs too, and it’s usually just a display error. Task Manager usually gives a better view of what's happening with your CPU.

Yep, that sounds like a software issue to me. Modern CPUs can handle a lot without damage, and if your temps are stable, you're likely fine. Just keep an eye on it in Task Manager, as it’ll provide the most accurate numbers. If it consistently shows high usage and you're experiencing issues, then we might need to look deeper.
