I recently opened up a brand new MSI Pro X870E-P motherboard to install an NVMe drive. When I was about to remove the screw from the slot that already had a black stopper, the screw shape fell off while I was applying some pressure. I'm not sure how to proceed but was considering using pliers.

Just a heads up, make sure you read the manual again; it shows that you shouldn't need any tools for that slot. The retention mechanism is designed to be tool-free! You might want to be careful with using pliers to avoid damaging your drive.

Using pliers can work, especially one like the Neji-Saurus M2 PZ-57, which is designed for this type of screw. I had a similar issue before, and it made it much easier to get the screw out without damaging anything. Just be cautious about not applying too much pressure in the M.2 slot!
