I bought this PC in 2017 and it's been great, but it's starting to show its age. Here's a quick specs rundown: an Intel i5 6400 CPU, NVIDIA GeForce 980ti GPU, 8GB of DDR4 2133 RAM (2x4GB), a 128GB SSD, and a 2TB HDD. The only upgrade I've done is adding an extra SSD, as the original one is maxed out with Windows. Unfortunately, there are no NVME slots available. I mainly play Total War games, and I notice really poor performance with Total War: Warhammer 3, especially with long load times and having to drop graphics settings. I'm looking for suggestions on possible upgrades. Would these upgrades make a significant difference and are they worth it for the games I want to play? Thanks for any help!

One solid upgrade would be to increase your RAM. Going up to 32GB would really help with overall performance, especially in Total War games. Since your CPU is older, getting a new GPU might not have as big of an impact. You might also want to check your motherboard specifications to see if it supports that much RAM, but going from 8GB to 32GB should definitely give you a noticeable boost.
Upgrading your RAM is definitely a good idea! Even moving up to 16GB from 8GB could help with loading times and performance in your games. It might not be a drastic difference, but it’s worthwhile considering how heavy Total War can be. If you’re limited by your motherboard, then just maxing out to 16GB could still be a good step forward.
