What upgrades should I consider for my LGA 1700 build to run Battlefield 6 at 1440p?

I'm currently working with an LGA 1700 build that wasn't originally designed for gaming. My setup includes an Intel Core i5-12400F CPU, a Gigabyte B760M DS3H motherboard, a GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card, and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I'm aiming to run Battlefield 6 at 1440p with medium settings, and I'm wondering what upgrades I should pursue. I suspect that the CPU and my 650W power supply might be holding me back, especially considering an upgrade to an i7-14700KF. Is my PSU sufficient for this change, or would I need something beefier?

The PSU is fine for now, but your motherboard's VRM could struggle with higher-end CPUs. My advice would be to stick to an i5 to keep power usage manageable, like the 14600KF. If you want to save power, consider the locked variants like the i7-14700F. You might even try adding some extra cooling to the VRMs.

I just checked, and the i7-14700F is pretty affordable around me too. I'm tempted to get that and upgrade the GPU later, but I might just start fresh with a full build in a couple of years!

Before making any upgrades, have you had a chance to test Battlefield 6 yet? Just curious if you’ve tried running it – I got early access myself! But regarding your build, you might want to reconsider getting the latest Intel chips. The 12th gen is more stable and won’t run into the degradation issues seen with the newer generations. Plus, keep in mind that your RTX 4060 might struggle with only 8GB of VRAM at higher settings.

Yeah, I totally agree. Going for a 16GB GPU could help, even at 1080p. And for the CPU, a used 12700K or 12900K might be a solid option.
