I've been experiencing CPU bottlenecking for about a year since I upgraded my graphics card, and I've finally decided to upgrade my motherboard and CPU. I want advice on selecting a combination that will keep me gaming smoothly for the next five years, all while sticking to a budget of $600-700. I play games almost daily, and I'm also hoping to run GTA 6 when it releases. Here are my current specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K @ 3.70GHz
- Motherboard: MSI Z390-A PRO ATX
- GPU: GeForce RTX 4070 Super 12GB
- RAM: 2x Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 16GB
- CPU Fan: Corsair Hydro Series H60 120MM
- Case: Mid Tower
I think I might need a new CPU fan and possibly DDR5 RAM as well, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

With your budget, you could go for a Ryzen 7800X3D, paired with a B650 motherboard and 32GB of 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM. That setup will give you a nice boost in performance and should be more than sufficient for gaming over the next few years! Check out this parts list I made on PCPartPicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gTthxH.
That setup sounds awesome! I was looking at some B650 boards before, but wasn’t sure about their relevance. This is my first time switching out a motherboard and CPU, so I was a bit nervous about picking incompatible parts.
