What’s a lightweight Linux distro to help a slow PC?

My friend got a very old Intel Celeron PC from his mom's friend, and it's really struggling with Windows 11. It can't even stream videos on YouTube properly. I suggested switching to Linux, but there are so many distributions out there. Does anyone know of a simple, lightweight distro that could speed things up?

You could also consider MX Linux with XFCE. It's my go-to, and it runs smoothly even on less powerful machines. Just make sure your friend considers what apps they actually need.

Linux Mint with XFCE is a great choice! It’s user-friendly and lightweight enough for older hardware. Plus, it has a good range of applications to choose from.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll definitely check it out.

If Mint feels too heavy, give Lubuntu a try! If that's still not working, Bodhi Linux could be a good fallback option for really low specs.

Q4OS has a version that runs on super low specs, like 500MHz CPU and 512MB RAM. You should check that out! It might just breathe new life into that old machine.

For trying out different distros easily, I'd suggest getting an 8 or 16GB USB stick and installing Ventoy on it. Then you can boot and test various lightweight options like MX Linux or even Elive. It’s really user-friendly and lets you experiment without making permanent changes.
