What’s That Mysterious Sound My PC Is Making?

I've been going a bit crazy over a weird sound my PC makes occasionally—it started a couple of weeks ago. My setup is pretty fresh with a 9800x3d and 9070xt, and the sound happens at random times, not just when I'm gaming (I was even able to capture it while playing). I've checked all my apps, processes, and overlays, but I can't figure out what's causing it. Can anyone please help me identify this sound?

You could use a tool like Process Monitor to log common notification sounds. It can help identify which app is generating these sounds. Check for sounds in formats like wav, mp3, m4a, and ogg. Here’s a link with more info: [link].

Solved it, thank you anyway 🙂

It sounds like it could be a Steam notification effect. I think it might happen when one of your friends starts or joins a game. The specific file name is ui_steam_smoother_friend_join.m4a. Might want to check your Steam settings and disable notifications if that's what it is!
