What’s the Best Affordable PC Setup for My Mom’s Basic Needs?

I'm looking to upgrade my mom's really old and failing PC. She mainly uses it for Facebook and watching streams. I already have an old case, a newer power supply, and a new SSD that I plan to use. I haven't built a computer in over a decade and wasn't great at it then. What's the cheapest processor I can get that won't be complete junk? Also, is DDR3 memory still worth considering, given that I'm on a tight budget?

Have you thought about just getting her a secondhand laptop? I got my dad a decent one for around $300, and he's quite happy with it. It might save you from the hassle of building a PC!

Unfortunately, where I live, prices are steep. A good laptop would cost about five times more because of currency issues and taxes. I’m looking at a $500 laptop for my own needs!
