What’s the best AM4 CPU to upgrade for a 5070ti?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 7 3800x and I'm looking to upgrade my CPU to make the most of my new 5070ti graphics card. Going to AM5 isn't an option for me right now due to budget constraints, but I can swing a new AM4 CPU. My main intention is gaming at 1440p, mostly casual stuff—maybe a little Rocket League for some competitive fun! I've seen that the 5700 and 5800x3D models are popular, but they're discontinued now and priced pretty high. I was considering either the 5800x or the 5800xt. I know I might experience some bottlenecking, but I'm okay with that. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The 5800X or 5800XT would definitely work for you. I made the leap from a 3700X to a 5950X and loved the difference!

I just ordered a 5950X too! Switching from a 3700X, and I'm pumped. My setup is ready for the upgrade.

For value, the 5700X is tough to beat if you don’t need a ton of cores. The price difference to the 5800X isn’t always significant, but keep in mind you’ll need a solid cooler to support it if you don’t have one. The OEM Prism cooler works great for the 5700X if you’re not into overclocking.

I just did a similar upgrade! I got a 9070XT and paired it with the 5800XT after moving up from a Ryzen 3600. The 5800XT is still available new, but the 5800X3D is getting pricey compared to the 7800X3D now.

I’d recommend looking for a 5800X3D if you can find one, as it’s the top performer. But the regular 5800 or 5900X series are solid if you want to save some cash.

The 5700X, 5800X, and 5800XT all perform similarly, so just go for the cheapest option. They’ll all serve you well with a 5070ti!

I got a 5800XT for about $140, but the 5700X has become a better deal lately!

Yeah, I agree. Just grab whichever one is on sale.

The 5800s are solid, but keep in mind they run hot and need decent cooling. The 5700X is nearly identical for gaming and uses less power—plus you can optimize it with PBO tuning. Honestly, just buy the cheapest one; the performance difference isn’t huge!

My 5800XT with the regular stock cooler hasn’t overheated at all in my budget case, even under heavy use!
