If you're currently on an AM4 CPU, I'd suggest considering the Ryzen 5 9600X. It's a solid choice for gaming on the new Zen 5 architecture, providing great single-core performance under $250. If you might want to save a bit for a better GPU later, the Ryzen 5 7600 (non-X version) is also a really good option for the price!
