What’s the Best Budget-Friendly Chair for Long Coding Sessions?

I'm on the lookout for a comfortable chair that can handle long coding sessions without breaking the bank. I know a lot of people rave about Herman Miller chairs, but I'm hoping for some alternatives that won't cost a fortune. Last time, I ended up with a foam chair that had a wine stain and a super short warranty, so I'd rather avoid that. What are some chairs you've tried that have worked well for hours of coding in a small home office? I'd really appreciate any recommendations you might have!

I got a refurbished Steelcase Leap V2, and it's been a game changer. I bought it from Crandall Office, and it came almost like new with new cloth and foam. Totally worth it!

Just be cautious if you're taller. I found it uncomfortable because of a gap between the seat and back.

I second this! I got mine refurbished too, and I can't recommend it enough.

You can find used Herman Miller Aerons for around $450 if you're patient. They last forever, and even when they do wear out, parts are easy to replace. Mine has held up for 8 years!

Nice! But will it fit in a mid-size sedan? Can you easily disassemble it?

I've had the Autonomous ErgoChair Pro for over 5 years, and I use it daily. It's been fantastic—no back pain or complaints at all. It has enough adjustments to get your position just right, and I spend 10+ hours a day in it without regrets!

Did you choose the mesh or foam seat version?

I switched to the ErgoChair Pro from a gaming chair, and my back has thanked me ever since! It's sturdy and really customizable.

I'm really happy with my Steelcase Gesture. It's not the cheapest, but after spending so much time at my desk, I think it's worth the investment!

I used to code on a folding chair that I found at a garage sale, thinking it was fine until I stood up and my spine cracked like bubble wrap! Definitely not doing that again. You definitely want to upgrade for comfort!

Haha, that sold me on getting a new chair for sure!

I used to work at my dining table too, and I still struggle to get up after sitting for more than 15 minutes!
